Mound City is a small town in Campbell County, South Dakota. As of the 2010 Census, its population was 71. The town was named after a nearby Native American burial ground, which contains several burial mounds. Mound City has a few small businesses, including a gas station, a post office, and a general store. The town is situated in the northern part of South Dakota, near the border with North Dakota. It is located approximately 78 miles north of Aberdeen and 25 miles west of the Missouri River. The town is surrounded by prairie and is known for its hunting and fishing opportunities.
